are there clear masks that are FDA approved that can be used with this population?

01:10:05
Have any hospitals created a pathway for PO trials post extubation of patients s/p prolonged ventilation? Particularly patients with HFNC?

01:14:32
I think hospitals are all needing to deal with this. There are no specific pathways that have been published that I am aware of but the need to utilize instrumental assessment in those HFNC patients is important if not during their high viral load period.

01:15:57
Do you wait to do an instrumental until after the pt is off HFNC

01:16:44
Sorry I meant once out of the high viral load period

01:16:57
For HFNC, is there a general consensus about when patients should not be eating/drinking? My hospital has quite strict guidelines.

01:17:54
Are hospitals letting clinical interns (students) come to hospitals for externships?

01:18:24
I am not aware of a clear mask that would be N-95 level or greater besides perhaps a PAPR. There is one mask fda approved for surgical mask level, the safe n clear. “clear mask” was coming out with one that would be fda approved for medical use, so check their website for details on that. The infection control officer in your facility should approve any medical masks you use, and particularly when airborne precautions must be observed.

I would love to hear the panel speaker’s approach thus far re: decision making with PO post extubation with this specific population

We have student interns back this semester. They don't enter Covid rooms

01:20:03
We also have students back this semester. They do not enter Covid rooms. They have to get fitted for an N95 prior to starting. They have to provide their own N95, but surgical masks are provided by my facility.

01:20:14
Our hospital in Montana is accepting students. Their schools are responsible for N95 fit testing and providing masks if their mask isn’t one we typically carry. At our hospital, they aren’t allowed to see Covid patients.

01:20:59
There is no consensus on when a patient should be eating on HFNC bc it is very patient specific. The literature supports this as there are variable outcomes with HFNC levels. The need for instrumental assessment is paramount.
